Yamauchi Seeks Golden Plum Pagoda
KYOTO, JAPAN–Sources close to ex-Nintendo Chairman Hiroshi Yamauchi hinted that the notoriously reclusive billionaire is on an epic quest in the mountainous wilderness of the northern island of Hokkaido searching for the legendary Golden Plum Pagoda. The 75-year old, who is considered a bit of a legend himself in the game industry after reigniting the video game business in the mid 1980′s following Atari’s implosion, has long desired to follow in his own father’s footsteps to find the fabled Golden Plum Pagoda. In a famous bet waged between the senior Yamauchi and arch rival Sei Yamamushi of the Notindo card-manufacturing company that similarly expanded into electronic devices during the 1960′s and 1970′s, the two captains of industry set off individually to discover the Golden Plum Pagoda and claim it’s prize of eternal wisdom and the world’s tastiest rice cakes. Both men vanished, never to be seen or heard from again, and while most sober observers felt that Yamauchi and Yamamushi had perished in a terrible snow storm in the mountains, the younger Yamauchi always maintained that his father had indeed discovered the Golden Plum Pagoda and that one day he would join him there.
