Such simplicity and such joy! Don’t Lose Your Marbles! is simply perfection that you must experience yourself. It is the caviar of video games, the Dom Perignon, the Madame Francoise, to whom I extend my warmest wishes and an invitation to renew our “splik” at her earliest convenience. But let us not speak of love but of fascination. DLYB is a battle of fascination, with each opponent forever on the edge of oblivion. Tilt this way and you may roll your opponent off the field, but what of your own marbles? Oddly, whenever I play this game, I am reminded of monkey balls, but why simian testicles appear in my mind remains a great mystery. Indeed, other images occur, games from many years ago, the Marble Madnesses and the Bubble Bobbleses and that wonderful tilting game with Kirby tumbling about like a little pink monkey testicle…perhaps that is what I was reminded of. Nevertheless, DLYB has a darker side–the puzzle mode–which is so impossible to beat it will suck your mind into a vacuum of despair. I have wept in frustration and I am not so proud as to conceal from my readers that, on occasion, I also yowled like a shaved cat during this most heinous of all game modes. And yet still I cannot stay away. It is obsession! I no longer know whether to warn you against it or invite you to join my topsy-turvy world. Let me say only that you will indeed lose some (if not all) of your marbles.
